Aerospace Sector Welcomes the Creation of Space Advisory Committee

Ottawa — The Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC), amongst its members are found Canada’s leading space companies, applauds the initiative of the Honorable Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), to help ensure that the Agency is able to successfully respond to the complex challenges it faces today and to guide its future evolution.
Canadian pioneered space technologies and solutions serve a diversity of Canadian interests at home and abroad – from enhancing national security and ensuring secure and affordable telecommunications, to protecting the environment and improving agricultural production and the management of our natural resources. Claude Lajeunesse, AIAC President & CEO states that “The ability of Canadian companies to remain important contributors in attaining these outcomes will be directly and heavily influenced by the role that the CSA takes to help sustain their world-class capabilities and in their creating additional ones”.
He adds, “We need to build on the successful partnership that has created a world class space industry that contributes to the economic prosperity and quality of life of all Canadians. AIAC and its members are committed to working with the Minister’s Advisory Committee to ensure that the CSA continues to play a pivotal leadership role in the development and fielding of leading-edge Canadian space capabilities”.
The AIAC is the national trade association representing Canada’s aerospace manufacturing and services sector — the fourth largest aerospace industry in the world, with annual sales of $22 billion; 80 per cent of which are exported; employing more than 79,000 Canadians. The organization represents the interests of 400 companies in all regions of the country.
